PAW 2014 Day 2

Another day another game of CoC at the Plymouth show using Gav Tyler's great new figure range of Winter War from Baker Company

Actually managed to win a game today as Russians, but both sides were Regulars, and the tanks helped massively especially the Flame Thrower tank, even with its massive 12" range, I added some extra terrain features from home, in the form of a snow laden fence layout and some barbed wire which has yet to be snow bound but fitted in generally.

The fence area helped massively, as light cover it allowed the Russians to deploy the jump off points a lot further forward than in the previous two games, and making both the Finns and the Russians Regular helped massively, also the fact that Pingu couldn't hit a barn door with an elephant helped as well, he must have had my luck and dice from yesterday!!

The scene after the first waves of Russian squads hit the line, dead piled high, three Russian NCO's and senior down and wounded, and squads pushed back, but the Finns depleted!!!

Managed to move forward and start frying Finns...

On the right of the line the devastated Ruskie platoon, all squads pinned one in the trench line, two milling in the open, and one at the fence line where it started!

And on the left we have Mr FT tank, very good tool for clearing dug in troops, any one for barbeque?

I must say a big thanks to Gav who allowed us to use his very nice figures, tanks and terrain to put on the game, we will hopefully be at Salute to do the display game again, oh the hardship... 

 

Also a big thanks to the organisers of the Plymouth Wargames Show each year, putting the B&B in the other room was a good idea giving ample room for displaying and viewing, thanks guys...

 

Hopefully more posts relatively soon as playing tomorrow night and again at the Exeter Devon wargames club next Saturday, new members always welcome, just come along...

 

 

PAW 2014

Just got back from the Plymouth Wargames show day one, where Jason and myself have been playing Chain of Command Gav Tylers very nice Baker Company "Winter War" where Two Ruskie Platoons with 4 tanks in support, yes that's 4 tanks were attacking a dug in Finn Platoon, with a sniper and Heavy MG in support, way of tank support went in the guise of Molotov's, and pieces of timber, the tried and tested means of immobilising Russian tanks, jam up the tracks with woods and then hit it with a burning bottle of petrol and watch it burn, see it in the great Finnish war film Tolvisota.

 

Gav of Baker company supplied the lovely figures, tanks and the terrain boards, we just sat and played two games... We were hard at work demonstrating the virtues of Mr.Clarke's CoC... oh er missus...

I was the Ruskies in the first game, wher as usual the dice gods were not looking positively on me, I managed to get troops on the table but never really got near to breaking the dug in Finns, the nearest I got was using two squads in a Uurahh!!! charge to attack the pillbox, but they all died to a man, killing three in return!!!

 

 

 

 

 

The second platoon I managed to get deployed in a wave assault formation ready for a mass Urrahhh charge, which we managed, but by the time we crossed the ground we were so depleted that we could not effectively fight for the trench line, and the remnants fell back. With only 4 command dice for the Green Russian troops and 6 for the elite Finns, it was a bit of a blood bath, with the decision of trying to move troops out of the line of fire or moving the tanks up to fire, with the T26 FT tank only having a range of 12" you have to get close...

 

The second game we played, I was the Finnish defenders, the Russians being Regular this time, the Finns remaining Elite, the Russians were able to move a little better and were able to deploy en-mass and after sacrificing a platoon to break the left flank with support of the Ft tank and the twin MG turreted T26, the second platoon soon arrived to secure the line and the Finn morale broke!!!

There was a lot of positive comments on CoC rules and we chatted to quite a few people who went off to purchase copies from traders, or were going to purchase in the future, as I've said before these are our preferred set of rules at the moment for Platoon sized games. And I highly recommend them...

Anyways we are back down again tomorrow and there's another whole day of show and gaming, maybe I will win a game, just maybe...
